Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana
Out of many social schemes launched By Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has been one of the most successful and appreciated.
The scheme was launched on August 28, 2014 for comprehensive financial inclusion of the citizens. He had announced this scheme on his first Independence Day speech on August 15.
PMJDY enables citizens to ensure access to financial services, namely, Banking/ Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner. An account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitr) outle under this scheme zero balance.
The mission made it to Guinness Book of World Records for its 11.50 crore accounts in a span of five months.
In total, more than 15.59 crore accounts have been opened under the scheme, as per the data available on government's website. Rs 16918.91 crore of amount was deposited in the accounts opened under the scheme and 13.96 crore Rupay cards were issued.
