Narendra Modi government recognised tourism as a key sector which can hugely contribute to India's foreign exchange earnings. To boost the foreign travel arrivals (FTA), the government took a number of initiatives which is finally paying off.
The Modi government claims that in the last one year, the number of foreign tourists arrivals in India has increased by 8.1% and the foreign exchange earnings got a boost of 10%.
The e-tourist visa and visa on arrivals services provided by the government also gave a big boost to the tourism industry. The citizens from 43 countries are currently eligible for e-tourist visa.
According to the data provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's website http://www.narendramodi.in/, No. of foreign tourist arrivals in the country in 2013-14 was 62,60,914 whereas 67,70,076 tourist visited India in 2014-15.
The foreign exchange earnings through tourism were recorded $15.517 billion in 2013-14 whereas the revenue was $17.073 in the year 2014-15.
