Coal Production
The government data claims that coal production increased by 32 million tonnes in last year and also highest in last four year. In last one year, 494 million tonnes coal was produced compared to last year of UPA's government when 462 million tonnes were produced.
A top government official recently said that coal supply is no longer a problem in the country and several new mines are coming on stream.
Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal recently said that India achieved a record 32 million tonnes increase in production of the fossil fuel in the last year. According to him, increased coal production led to a 12 per cent increase in power production last year.
About two dozen brownfield and greenfield mining projects were made operational last year.
Coal is one of the eight core sectors tracked by the government, including crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, electricity, steel and cement.
