New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today took on the Narendra Modi government at party's 'Kisan Mazdoor Samman' rally in national capital.

Addressing the crowd, Sonia said that that the party has won the land bill fight in New Delhi and now it will take the fight to the states.

She also countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's charge that Congress is blocking development.

"Congress will oppose decisions which are against the interests of farmers," she said.

On the hand, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that 'government was forced to drop Ordinance on land bill'.

"It is indeed a victory of Congress but more credit goes to farmers," he said.

The Congress leader also said that the Congress' fight against controversial land bill was aimed at protecting the 'dignity and future' of India's farmers.

"The fight on land bill is not limited to Parliament but has to be fought even in Assemblies. This is not a fight for farms, not a fight for land but this is a battle for farmers' hearts," he said.

Gandhi accused the Modi government of going back on the minimum support price for crops and not being there to help the farmers when their crops were destroyed by hailstorm earlier this year.

"I want to tell Modi (to) listen to the farmers, go to their homes, hold their hands and help them."

The Congress leader said Modi had said the government would allow the land ordinance to lapse. "But I know Modiji. What he really says he does not do.

Gandhi said while Modi had said he won't kill the earlier Congress land acquisition bill, he had told BJP chief ministers to go ahead with the contents of the bill that could not be passed in parliament in states.

He also described Modi's 'Make-in-India' as 'Take-in-India' and said that the initiative has no place for farmers and labourers.

The Congress has organised 'Kisan Mazdoor Samman' rally at the Ramlila Ground in Delhi to greet farmers and party workers for 'forcing' the Narendra Modi government to withdraw the 'draconian' land ordinance.
