New Delhi: Union Minister and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah today stirred a hornets' nest when he remarked in Parliament premises that he was scared of speaking to women now.
Asked about his comments on Justice A K Ganguly being found culpable in a sexual harassment case, Dr Abdullah told mediapersons today:" Nowadays we are scared of speaking to women, and even keeping woman secretaries.
" You don't know what will happen. God forbids, if they level any charge, we can land up in jail....I am not blaming the girls, I am blaming society. Rapes are of course taking place in society. This is probably because of the decline in the number of girls."
Soon after TV news channels flashed his sexist remarks, women leaders were up in arms.
BJP MP Menaka Gandhi said, "Dr Abdullah has this habit of taking all things lightly. He took the Kashmir issue lightly and made a mess of it. He is taking his ministry lightly, and look where his ministry his. His image is that of a man dancing and living a high life. Such comments from him are not surprising."
