Meerut: Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh today took a swipe at Narendra Modi, saying while farmers are committing suicide the Prime Minister is busy in foreign trips.
Addressing a farmers meet at Kanker Khera here, the former Union Minister demanded enhanced compensation for farmers who have been affected by unseasonal rain and hailstorm.
If the central government is claiming that it has fetched more than Rs two lakh crore from coal auction, at least Rs one lakh crore should be spent on farmers' welfare, Singh said, adding that the funds can be used to waive their loans.
He claimed that the Uttar Pradesh government, instead of providing relief to the farmers, are doing politics on the issue.
