New Delhi: In an apparent reference to Sonia Gandhi's yesterday remark that ‘those who have no role in the Constitution are now claiming to be its guardian', Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that he was born 6 years after independence so could not have had a role in the framing Constitution.
Reminding Congress about the days of Emergency, Jaitley said, "Emergency was the greatest challenge to Indian democracy. Those who talk of tolerance snatched right to life."
"Today someone comes up on the TV and makes a statement and it becomes an issue of 'intolerance'. The right to live is the biggest right (Sabse bada adhikaar, jeene ka adhikaar hai)," he said in the Rajya Sabha.
The Winter Session of the Parliament begun yesterday with the first two days of the month-long session being dedicated to the anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution also known as Constitution Day.
