Tiruchirappalli (TN): Forty six vehicles of political parties, including AIADMK, DMK and BJP, as well as independents, were seized by election officials at Srirangam assembly constituency, where bypoll will be held on February 13, for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

These include using the vehicles without proper documents and permission, police said.

They said the vehicles were checked at various checkposts by a flying squad of Regional Transport Officers of this city, Karur and Perambalur.

As per Election Commission norms, candidates/parties should have obtained permission for vehicles being used for propaganda, whether cultural shows or mike fitted vehicles.

An Independent candidate ‘Traffic' Ramaswamy had filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner by enclosing video and photographs of vehicles allegedly violating the norms.

Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxsena ordered an inspection by forming a special team and take action against poll violations in using the vehicles.
