New Delhi: Terming the country's economic transformation as “mind boggling”, President Pranab Mukherjee today said India is undergoing transition from a developing to a developed economy.
A group of probationers of 65th Batch of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) today called on the President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Welcoming the probationers to the Durbar hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said all of them would start their career in public life very soon and he was happy that prior to beginning of their new assignments, their Academy has brought them to this historic building.
Mukherjee congratulated the probationers on their selection to the civil services which he said is an indicator of their potential to perform and achieve. “During the coming years, they all will get ample opportunity to deliver their best in the service of the nation.
He was sure each one of them will rise to the occasion and will do his or her best. He urged the probationers to respect the trust of the nation as the government has assigned them the sovereign function of tax collection,” Shamima Siddiqui, Deputy Press Secretary to the President, said.
“The President said the economic transformation that has taken place in the country over the years is mind-boggling. He said the officers are entering the service at a time when the country is undergoing transition from a developing to a developed economy.
He said he was sure that the training being imparted to the officers would have equipped them with necessary skills to meet the challenges,” the statement said.
The probationers are undergoing professional training at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad. Among these probationers five are from the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan.
