New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday said the Election Commission will take a final call on holding assembly elections in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.
"Whatever decision will be taken will be taken by the Election Commission, after assessing the whole situation," Singh said in reply to a question on the poll schedule in view of the floods that have hit the state.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be held in December, according to sources in Commission.
The minister congratulated the army, paramilitary forces and National Disaster Response Force for their role in the rescue and relief operations.
In reply to another question, he said: "Such natural calamities should be kept away from politics and not be connected to assembly polls."
