New Delhi: The new Chief Election Commissioner, H S Brahma, today said that the EC would soon start working on facilitating the NRIs with the electronic postal ballots.
The e-postal ballots will allow the NRIs to vote from their country of residence. The new CEC also added that this facility will also be extended to the armed force personnel.
Brahma also stated that as the SC has set 8 week deadline for the government and parliament to amend the law to extend the NRI voting rights, the EC will also start the preparations for the facility on its end.
While the electronic postal ballots will be sent electronically by the concerned district election officer to the NRIs, it would be posted back as a hard copy, added Brahma.
Brahma, who succeeded V S Sampath, said that it was one of his priorities to improve the election management with the use of the latest technology.
