Chandigarh, Aug 7 : Former Haryana deputy chief minister and Anuradha Bali aka Fiza's former husband Chander Mohan on Monday told The Indian Express: “Don't write anything from my side. It was over three years ago and since then there has been no contact.”
Rohit Mahajan, a friend and former colleague of Anuradha Bali, told the newspaper, it was difficult to believe the gutsy former assistant advocate general of Haryana would choose to kill herself.
“It is odd that she went to sleep in the ground floor bedroom. She always slept on the first floor. In the past few years, she had become very brave, and a drastic step like suicide would be unexpected of her,” Mahajan said.
“Clarity on the cause of death will be clear after the post mortem report,” SSP Mohali Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.
Neighbours said Bali had few friends in the colony and kept to herself.
“The only times we saw her was when she had an argument with someone. She swore unabashedly and was prone to violent outbursts over small things,” said a neighbour.
Bali had been arrested recently after she allegedly assaulted some children in her neighbourhood. Following a spat with her neighbours, she had sought police protection.
When denied, she had reportedly hired two private security guards.
Another neighbour claimed to have seen her last at 2 pm on August 2.
“Since that night, she hadn't switched on the decorative lights she had put in her balcony, which she usually did,” the neighbour said.
Police on Monday questioned a Sector 20 Panchkula cameraman who works for a local TV channel. Bali is believed to have been a frequent visitor to the youth's home.
Mohali Senior Medical Officer Rajiv Bhalla said the viscera sample from Anuradha's body had been sent to “chemical examiners who normally take two to three weeks” to submit their report.
He said “poisoning cannot be ruled out as excessive consumption of liquor is also poisonous”.
Anuradha Bali eloped with deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, n in December 2008. The two resurfaced as ‘Fiza' and ‘Chand Mohammed', and claimed they had converted to Islam and married.
The marriage fell apart within 20 days after Chander Mohan's father Bhajan Lal renounced him for bringing “shame upon the family”.
In January 2009, ‘Chand Mohammed' annulled his marriage to ‘Fiza' and went back to being Chander Mohan.
