New Delhi:With allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the preparations for Commonwealth Games, BJP on Tuesday demanded that Sports Minister M S Gill, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi be divested of their responsibilities. It also demanded a judicial commission be set up to probe into the alleged bunglings related to the international sporting event.
"Honest and transparent persons should be appointed in their (Gill, Dikshit, Kalmadi) places. We also demand that the government should appoint a time-bound judicial commission for inquiry into the bunglings related to the Games," senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here. The CVC, CAG, CBI, Indian High Commission in London and other government agencies have already started exposing corruption in the Games, he claimed.
Naidu, however, said his party was not against the Games and added, "Nobody is opposing the Games. Only one Congressman Mani Shankar Aiyar is opposing it. He has said that he would be unhappy if the Games is success. I pray to God his wish should not be successful."
Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi were "deliberately avoiding" their attendance at the inauguration of any stadium or sports complex. "Everybody knows that public money is being looted in the name of Games," he alleged.
Preparations for the CWG, scheduled in October, have been mired in various controversies including incomplete or poorly made infrastructure for various events, corruption in tenders, purchases and also in the holding of the Queens baton rally in the UK. PTI
