New Delhi: The impasse in the Rajya Sabha over union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's abusive comment continued Monday and there was ruckus as soon as house met for the day.
As Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien tried to take up the zero hour, opposition members started their protest.
Kurien then allowed opposition leader Anand Sharma to speak, saying that the zero hour should be allowed to take place after that.
"We have scaled down our demand, we gave up on demand for resignation and then the condemnation, and now want just a two-line resolution," Sharma said.
Sharma then quoted the resolution: "This house strongly disproves any statement made by any member of parliament, member of cabinet or council of ministers that is inflammatory, derogatory, and violates the letter and spirit of the Constitution and law of the land."
The opposition leader said he moves the motion. However, Kurien said the resolution cannot be moved without the chair's permission.
As protest continued, the house was adjourned till noon.
