New Delhi, Jan 3: The BJP Thursday said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's peace march in memory of the 23-year-old woman who was brutally gang-raped and died Dec 29 was a "drama" and "a complete failure".
"The peace march taken out by Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit and her government yesterday (Wednesday) was a complete failure and it was a drama in the name of peace march," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP's) Delhi unit chief Vijender Gupta said in a statement.
Gupta said only Delhi government employees participated in the march and the common people did not join in.
"Peace march proved to be a joke. The government employees who participated in it did not know anything. Hence the soul of peace march was absent. There was no emotion on the face of the people," he said.
The BJP leader also criticised the Delhi government for spending crores of rupees on advertising for the peace rally.
Dikshit marched to Rajghat from Bal Bhavan in central Delhi, just a kilometre away, at the head of "a peace rally" in memory of the woman who was brutally assaulted and gang-raped Dec 16 in a moving bus here.
The woman later died of her injuries in a Singapore hospital Dec 29.
