Indore: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has accused the BJP-led NDA government of making "U-turns" on a number of issues including the nuclear deal between India and US.
"During Congress-led UPA regime, the BJP leaders termed the bill on Civil Nuclear deal between India and US as against the interest of the country. On the basis of BJP's suggestions amendments were also made in its sub-clause. Despite that BJP opposed the Bill and tried to topple the UPA government," he told reporters at Indore Press Club yesterday.
"Now the BJP's majority government has agreed to implement the same liability sub-clause related to nuclear deal which the UPA government on their suggestion relaxed," the Congress general secretary alleged.
"The Centre is unable to clarify till now that what amendments it has carried out on the issue of Civil Nuclear Deal's liability clause so that we can get the safe nuclear technology. It is also not clear what has transpired between India and America on the issue. It should be revealed to the country," he demanded.
Singh said that in the current scenario, the Congress expects the Centre to ensure India's sovereignty and interests while implementing the nuclear liability sub-clause in the deal.
The Congress leader alleged that since coming to power in May 2014, BJP has made a U-turn on several issues.
During UPA regime it opposed the implementation of Adhaar Card linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme but now it is implementing the same to take credit. They failed to fulfil the promise of bringing back black money stashed away in foreign countries also.
He said that despite fall in prices of crude oil at international level, the same is not reflected in the cost of diesel and petrol in the country and instead of giving relief to the people, the government is imposing tax on them to fill its coffers.
Singh also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make In India" was in stark contrast with RSS' core ideology.
He said that under "Make In India" programme, foreign companies were being invited to set up manufacturing units in India, while Sangh affiliated "Swadeshi Jagran Manch" opposed sale of foreign company goods in India.
Singh said though BJP contested the last Lok Sabha polls on the plank of development, Sangh associated organizations have raised issues like "Hindu Rashtra, religious conversion, Ghar Wapsi, Love Jihad and constructing temple of Nathuram Godse for doing politics of communalism."
