Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijay Singh today criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his dharna demanding action against police officials for alleged dereliction of duty, saying government is not run “on the streets”.

He said the Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal should not interfere in the functioning of Delhi Police and the bureaucrat-turned-activist-turned politician must realise that no Government can be run by staging dharnas.

“Kejriwal must understand that a Government is run through Assemblies or Parliament and not on the streets of any city,” the Congress General Secretary told reporters at his residence here.

It was the Delhi Police's duty to maintain law and order in the national capital and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party should not interfere in their functioning, the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister maintained.

Both Kejriwal and the AAP should not interfere in the working of the Delhi Police which should be allowed to do its duty, said Singh, whose party is extending outside support to the Government formed by the fledgling outfit.

Kejriwal and his Ministers today began a dharna outside Rail Bhavan demanding action against police officials who refused to carry out a raid on an alleged  drug and prostitution racket in South Delhi last week.

The Chief Minister demanded immediate suspension of the “corrupt” officials.
