In the wake of Congress leader Digvijay Singh's visit to Azamgarh in connection with the Batla House shootout, BJP on Friday alleged he was acting as a "supercop" and by his actions he had given "respectability to terrorism".
"Digvijay Singh's revelation that he went to Azamgarh with the approval of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi is serious enough to warrant an explanation from the Congress president herself," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said. The BJP insisted that by his actions Singh and the Congress have "given respectability to terrorism".
"This vote bank politics will undermine country s efforts in fighting terrorism," Javadekar said, adding, that Singh was acting like a "supercop" and "super-investigator".
The main opposition has been critical of Singh's visit to Sanjarpur village to meet the families of Shahzad Alam - who allegedly shot at inspector M C Sharma - and other Batla House encounter and Delhi blast accused. BJP has accused Congress of playing the minority appeasement card.
"Azamgarh misadventure only shows Congress' desperation for minority votes and soft approach towards terrorism. Singh's efforts are to show that anti-terror measures are anti-minority. This is the worst communal politics of Congress and even injustice to the minority community," Javadekar said. He asserted that this move at this juncture will only demoralise security forces further and hamper the ongoing investigations. PTI
