Kolkata, April 17: Claiming that democracy was under siege in West Bengal, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Tuesday urged the "democratic, peace-loving people" to come forward to oppose the "undemocratic and inhuman activities" perpetrated by the Trinamool Congress administration on young, old and political activists.

"Democracy is under attack, undemocratic activities are continuing, these sort of undemocratic activities are being controlled by the government and district administration," party state secretary Biman Bose said here.

Bose alleged that 52 arrests, including those of former ministers and ex-parliamentarians, were made in Siliguri (Darjeeling district) without any warrant.

"This way the attack on democracy is continuing, the inhuman behaviour is continuing, though the (state) government has repeatedly claimed that their face is human. How can that be dubbed human," he said.

Bose urged the people to come out and oppose the "undemocratic and inhuman activities" being carried out in the state.

"We are calling upon the democratic, peace-loving people to come forward to fight these kind of undemocratic, inhuman activities perpetrated by the administration on the young boys, old people and political activists," he said.
