New Delhi: As Delhi geared up for its biggest battle, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley cautioned voters that their choice was between “governance and anarchy”, and told them that the result would impact the “country's image”.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, a key strategist for Delhi, led the charge, flanked by the party's CM candidate Kiran Bedi, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
“Delhi election has its importance because Delhi is the face of the country, and how government runs here is a reflection on the country's image. Delhi can be a symbol of good governance,” Jaitley said.
Dismissing reports of dissensions in party ranks and AAP gaining momentum, Jaitley said: “It has been a very satisfying campaign. We appeal to all voters to come out and choose a party that will provide a stable and strong government as opposed to the anarchy and chaos of the 49 nightmarish days last year (a reference to AAP's government in Delhi).
Asserting that his party has put all its might in these elections and was confident of winning, he said, "Delhi elections hold importance because Delhi is the face of the country and how government runs here is a reflection on the country's image."
BJP has shown in last eight months what it could do in the country in terms of development and governance, he said, adding that now no one talks of scam.
The Finance Minister said the intense campaign by top BJP leaders was not a reflection of nervousness. “Working hard does not mean that we are not comfortable… We put all our effort into all elections, we put our hearts and souls into it,” Jaitley said.
The Finance Minister focused his attack on the AAP, stressing that that party is more comfortable staging demonstrations on the street than providing a stable and functional government.
