New Delhi: Congress general secretary and party's face for the Delhi Assembly polls, Ajay Maken, resigned from the party's post today taking 'full responsibility' for the poll debacle.

“I was the party's face in Delhi... I take the full responsibility for this debacle and hence, I tender my resignation from the post of Congress general secretary,” he said.

Defending the Congress Scion and party's vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Maken said, “I don't think Rahul is responsible for this. It is just that people of Delhi have shown faith in AAP.”

He also congratulated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvnd Kejriwal on paty's spectacular performance.

“I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and his party for massive victory in Delhi. Wish him all the best for the future!” he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Arvinder Singh Lovely also resigned from the party's post.

As per the Election Commission trends, the Congress is leading at one seat till 11:30 am.

Elections to elect new 70-member Delhi Assembly was held on February 7 with voter turnout of 67.08 per cent.

Kejriwal-led AAP is on course to scripting history as the party was headed towards a landslide victory with a lead over 60 seats.

In December 2013, the Congress had managed to bag 8 seats.
