Delhi Polls: 25 candidates file nomination today

New Delhi: As many as 25 candidates, including 15 from Aam Aadmi Party and three from Congress, filed their nomination papers today on the fourth day of filing of candidature.  According to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's Office, a total of 47 candidates including 17 from AAP have filed their nomination papers so far.

Meanwhile, 73 FIRs have so far been lodged against different political parties in Delhi for violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which came into force on January 13.

According to the CEO's office, 33 FIRs have been lodged against Aam Aadmi Party while 15 have been registered against the BJP for violation of the poll code. “Apart from these, 20 FIRs were registered against Congress and six against BSP, one against RJD,” the CEO's office said in statement.

A total number of 1,331 hoardings have been removed from public property till date.

As on January 16, as many as 5,138 persons have been booked and as preventive measures 34 licensed arms were deposited, two unlicensed arms and five cartridges were seized.

A meeting was today called by the Chief Electoral Officer to discuss strategy and preparedness of the Excise department to check and control use of liquor for political purpose during the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The Income Tax department has set up a 24x7 Control Room-cum-Complaint Monitoring Cell with toll free number (1800-110-132) for receiving complaints and information regarding movement of large sums of cash or other items suspected to be used for “bribing” electors.

The Income Tax Department will keep close surveillance on other suspicious places/agencies/persons likely to be used for movement of un-disclosed cash during election process such as major railway stations, hotels, farm houses, hawala agents, cash couriers, pawn brokers, etc.
