New Delhi: Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely today tendered his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi after taking moral responsibility for the party's worst-ever performance in the Assembly elections. However, it is not clear whether his resignation letter has been accepted by the senior leadership.
Congress failed to win even one seat in these polls, which saw AAP emerge as the runaway winner with BJP ending a distant second.
“Taking moral responsibility for the worst-ever performance, Lovely has tendered his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi,” said a senior party leader.
The AICC in-charge for Delhi, PC Chacko, too, has offered to resign from his post.
Stung by the humiliating defeat, Congress's face for the Delhi polls, Ajay Maken, has resigned from his post of party general secretary.
Maken, who was the Congress Campaign Committee chief, finished third in Sadar Bazaar. Similar was the fate of former Delhi Minister Kiran Walia, who contested against Arvind Kejriwal for the New Delhi seat.
