New Delhi: Amid the ensuing slugfest over charges and counter-charges of corruption between the AAP and ruling BJP, party chief Amit Shah today summoned MP Kirti Azad, a party MP from Darbhanga, to apparently dissuade him from raking up allegations against its senior leader and Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Azad has attacked Arun Jaitley over "corruption" time and again in the DDCA when he had headed it. Azad had earlier said that he will be holding a press conference on Sunday with regard to corruption in the DDCA.

The party obviously wants to convince him to exercise restraint as his allegations have given enough fodder to the AAP to target the Finance Minister.

An unfazed Azad, however, did not appear to have any change of plans even after his meeting with party chief Shah. "It was a good meeting (with Shah). I will hold the press conference on Sunday," he said.

Though there was no official comment on what transpired in the meeting, party sources said Shah advised Azad to exercise restraint, noting that opposition parties have used these charges to attack BJP.

Shah's summoning of Azad came a day after BJP general secretary Ram Lal called him over the same issue.

BJP is understood to have told Azad that these are old charges dating back till 2013 when Jaitley headed DDCA and Congress was in power at the Centre as well as in Delhi but nothing came out of them.

"With BJP now in power in Delhi, Congress and AAP are using the same charges to embarrass Jaitley and BJP," a party leader said.
