New Delhi: A crucial meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will be held today which is expected to deliberate on the roadmap to revamp the party in the wake of its worst debacle in the Lok Sabha polls.

It is also likely to come out with an action plan to take on the Narendra Modi government on issues like the controversial land ordinance which is emerging as a rallying point for opposition parties.

The meeting convened by party chief Sonia Gandhi will discuss the current political situation at a time when the Congress is sensing an opportunity to reach out to farmers on the issue.

AICC has already asked state units to launch agitations on the matter before February 15 when the Budget session of Parliament is expected to begin.

The meeting has also come at a time when Sonia has asked PCC chiefs to hold a series of consultative meets with party leaders to elicit views and coalesce consensus on core issues and has underlined the need to redraft its socio-economic policies.

This is virtually the second meeting of the apex policy making body of the party after the Lok Sabha polls which saw Congress tally plummeting to a record low of 44.

With the youth predominantly voting for BJP in the polls, the party in a note to its state chiefs has said, "We cannot ignore the aspirations of the sections of the urban middle class, which cuts across caste and religion."
