Kolkata: The CPI-M Sunday said it will take action, including expulsion, against at least 1,000 of its members in West Bengal for not working for the party in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

Communist Party of India-Marxist's (CPI-M) North 24 Parganas district committee secretary Gautam Deb also said the party will be taking a host of initiatives, including organising 1,000 road-shows and meetings as well as constituting strong social media teams across the district, with an eye to the 2016 assembly polls.

"We have got a list of at least 1,000 party members who preferred to sit idle at their homes instead of working for the party and participating in the electoral process. We have decided to take strong action against them including suspension and expulsion from the party," Deb told media persons after a two-day district committee meeting.

Emphasising the need to maintain balance between "youth and experience" in the party, he said that an "intelligent mixture of young, middle-aged and elderly members" is necessary.

Talking about the strategies to revive the party fortunes in the district, Deb said workshops targeting particular sections of voters such as tribals, students, Hindi and Urdu speaking voters as well as Bangladeshi immigrants, will be organized.
