Kolkata: Communist Party of India (M) today slammed the invite to US President Barack Obama for being R-Day chief guest, alleging that the move gives a message that India is ready to work as junior partner of the US in days to come.
“By inviting US president Barack Obama, the Modi government is trying to send out a message that India wants to work as a junior partner of the US in days to come,” CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said.
“This will have severe ramifications on the common people of India. On the issue of economic policies, the Modi government is ready to open its markets for the US corporaes,” Yechury said.
“Earlier India used to be known as a force, who used to fight for the Third World nations and against economic exploitation of big capitals. From now on, India will not have that role India will be know as the junior partner of the US,” Yechury said.
The CPI(M)-led Left Front today organised a rally in Kolkata to protest against Obama's two-day visit to India and accused the Modi government of surrendering the country's interest before the US.
