Kolkata- Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday accused the CPI-M of killing her party workers and then putting up posters blaming the Maoists for the crime.

Stating that she did not support killings by Maoists and was against the politics of blood, Mamata alleged that the CPI-M put the blame on Maoists after killing her party workers like what it did at Sankrail in West Midnapore district last night.

"It would be proved if an investigation was conducted," she told reporters here.

The police said Hemanto Mahato, a Trinamool worker, was forcibly taken away from his house in the Sankrail area last night by the Maoists and shot dead. His bullet-ridden body was found this morning.

In posters kept near Mahato's body, the ultras claimed that he was a police informer and was involved in extorting money from locals.

Mamata, who said she would hold a meeting at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district on August 9, wondered why most places in the district were under prohibitory orders for a prolonged period.

"I will hold a meeting at Lalgarh on August 9. Why should prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC be in force in 70 per cent areas in West Midnapore? Why only CPI-M should hold meeting there," she asked.

She said she would leave for Delhi tomorrow and embark on a mass-contact programme from Nanoor on August 5. PTI
