Lucknow: The state leadership in Uttar Pradesh has been asked to give names of probable candidates for by-elections on 12 seats which have fallen vacant after the MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha, party General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry said today.

“Names of probable candidates for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha by-elections have been sought from the state leadership.  We have already received some names,” Mistry, who is also the incharge of the party in Uttar Pradesh told reporters here.

The seats fell vacant after some members of UP assembly, including BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra, Uma Bharati and Apna Dal MLA Anupriya Patel, were elected to Lok Sabha.  He said the district and city committees, which were disbanded after the Lok Sabha polls, would be constituted by July 24.

The UP Pradesh Congress Committee was dissolved following party's drubbing in Lok Sabha elections.  Mistry, who is on a two-day visit here, today held a closed-door meeting with party members of the state executive, MLAs and members of the media cell.
