After going it alone in the last Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, the Congress will do the same in the assembly elections due in the state this year end. "Congress workers will fight for the rights of the people without fear and bring change in Bihar. Congress will contest on its own," AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to the state to galvanise party workers ahead of the polls, said on Monday at Bettiah.
Gandhi said only those who fought for the rights of the people would be given party tickets. He arrived in West Champaran district and drove to Bhitharwa Ashram from where Mahatma Gandhi had launched the satyagraha movement in 1917.
At Darbhanga, at a meeting with students of the Lalit Narayan Mitihila University, he said that Bihar was not developing because youths were not entering politics.
He said the Sachar Committee recommendations were being implemented and a move was afoot to provide reservation to minorities, for which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had constituted a special committee. PTI
