Srinagar: Opposition PDP today accused Congress of indulging in divisive and communal politics in Jammu and Kashmir and said it cannot wash its hands off the "morass of political uncertainty and economic instability" in the state.

Addressing a series of election rallies in Dooru Assembly segment of south Kashmir Anantnag district, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said, "Congress cannot wash its hands off the morass of political uncertainty and economic instability Jammu and Kashmir is entangled in... And for sowing seeds of divisive and communal politics."

Mehbooba also attacked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for "criticising his friend" Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Gandhi, while addressing an election rally in Lolab area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday, had described the state government as "lethargic" and "unable" to fulfill people's aspirations.

Mehbooba said Congress and NC are equally responsible for creating political space for BJP in the state, which she alleged, has seen "the most incompetent and corrupt" government in the last six years.

The south Kashmir MP also attacked Congress and the Omar Abdullah government over the hanging of Parliament attack convict  Afzal Guru, Haji Yousuf case and cricket association scam.

"PDP has set new and ethical standards of political morality and steadfastness thereby making the traditional political parties more accountable before the electorate," she said.

"The state's conventional political clan, which was used to deceiving people in the name of one or the other juggling act, is stunned by this new reality and this has led its leadership to further confusion and desperation," she said.
