Kolkata, March 11: Ruling out any alliance between his party and the Trinamool Congress in the current political scenario, Congress general secretary Oscar Fernandes said here Sunday that contrary to Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee's assertion, the UPA government would complete its term.

"We have enough MPs. So I don't think there is any possibility of the next general elections being held in the next two-three months.

"We will complete our term. Our term will expire only in the month of May 2014. And then only the next round of elections will be held," Fernandes told reporters at the state Congress headquarters Vidhan Bhawan.

Two days back Banerjee had predicted that the Lok Sabha polls would be held within the next two-three months.

Ruling out any chance of a tie-up with Trinamool now, Fernandes said: "If you see the present political situation, there is no such plan or contingency. We cannot see such things."

The Trinamool and the Congress had fought the 2009 Lok Sabha and the 2011 West Bengal assembly elections in alliance and were partners in the central and state governments.

However, their ties snapped -- both at the centre and in the state -- in September last year.

Fernandes also countered Banerjee's claim that her party will get back the railway portfolio, which it held for 28 months since May 2009.

"I don't see any such possibility now," he added.
