Jammu: BJP today accused Congress of being responsible for the miseries faced by the members of Scheduled Caste in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Members of the Scheduled Caste community in Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of the benefits of welfare schemes launched from time to time. Congress is responsible for the plight of these sections, as they have been sharing power with NC and PDP,” Union Minister Thavar Chand Gehlot said while addressing an election rally of the party's SC workers here.
Gehlot, a Social Justice and Empowerment Minister in Narendra Modi dispensation, also alleged that Congress only exploited the people and the state was lagging behind other states on development front.
Making an appeal to the voters to elect his party's candidate, Gehlot said, “The state was lagging behind on development front. The previous PDP and National Conference governments, supported by Congress only exploited the people of this state, the SCs too have been taken for granted, which will not happen this time.”
The Union Minister said BJP was getting overwhelming response from the people and expressed hope that the party would form its first ever government in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The days of miseries, problems, discrimination of the SCs will come to end and the genuinely deserving people will get the benefits of all the schemes meant for them,” he said. Gehlot alleged that Congress leaders were frustrated with the growing popularity of BJP and its success in Lok Sabha elections and making irrelevant statements.
He said Congress leaders always claim that they were well wishers of SCs but in reality the situation was entirely different.
