Kolkata: It seems both Congress and Left Front are trying to mend ways in West Bengal. They have probably realized that it has become a political compulsion for both sides to join hands if they have to defeat the common enemy- the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.

An indication to the new thinking emerged when both Congress and Left Front decided to support the candidature of independent candidate Ahmad Saeed Malihabadi , who also happens to be the editor of a newspaper, for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Even in 2004, the Congress and Left had supported a common candidate for the Rajya Sabha after which the Left front had extended outside support to the UPA government.

The move becomes significant in view of the fact that the state unit of the Congress has opposed any kind of tie-up with Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.
