New Delhi: Congress MLAs and leaders from Rajasthan today met President Pranab Mukherjee asking him to to disqualify state minister Sanwar Lal Jat as he has taken oath as a Lok Sabha member but continues to remain a minister in the state government.

The Opposition Congress has been opposing the presence ex-MLA Sanwar Lal Jat in the Assembly claiming that he was not constitutionally a minister now.

However, the state Assembly Speaker, in his ruling, had said that the fact that he is still a cabinet minister in Rajasthan cannot be challenged.

“Jat, who was an MLA, joined the Rajasthan cabinet on December 20 but fought the Lok Sabha polls which he won.Later, he resigned as an MLA after taking oath as MP but continues to be a cabinet Minister which is completely illegal as has run out of the six months period for being elected as MLA in June,” state Congress chief Sachin Pilot told PTI here.

Besides the party MLAs, Congress leaders like Pilot, leader of opposition in the state assembly Rameshwar Dudi along with ex-Union Ministers C P Joshi, Girija Vyas and Jitendra Singh met with President today and submitted the memorandum seeking his intervention.
