New Delhi: Attacking Congress and AAP, Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal today said former “is history” while the latter “failed” to run a government despite getting a mandate from the people of Delhi.  Addressing an election meeting at Hari Nagar here, Badal said, “people say once upon a time there was a party called Congress.”

Without naming Aam Aadmi Party, Badal said “there is a new party which had got the mandate from the people of Delhi to run the government. But they could not sustain for more than 49 days.”

Referring to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had successfully run NDA coalition for a five-year term, he said “Vajpayee Sahib had the experience to take along everybody, which is required in a democracy.” Badal was of the view that Kiran Bedi is “quite capable” of becoming the Chief Minister of the state as she has been a “tested” administrator.

“What does this city need immediately? Law and order to ensure safety and security of women in Delhi. I think Kiran Bedi is the best candidate for the Chief Minister's post and would be able to deal with your problems related to water, power and traffic,” he said.

Sharing his personal experience of dealing with Congress-led governments at the Centre, he said “I got step-motherly treatment. My state suffered because as Chief Minister, I had to beg from them (Centre), even on very small issues.” He suggested that if BJP comes to power in Delhi, then the central government would extend greater support to the state.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was expected to attend the election meeting but he could not make it.  Among those who attended the election meeting were senior SAD and BJP leaders Maya Singh, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Sharanjit Singh Dhillion.
