New Delhi: Voicing concern over repeated incursions by Chinese troops, the Congress made a scathing attack on Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and demanded that the Prime Minister give a statement and lodge a ‘real strong protest' with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the ‘unacceptable' development.

Dubbing the ‘incursions, intrusions and infiltration' by China in the Indian territory as ‘brazen and blatant', party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that such a scenario is ‘absolutely unacceptable' for the sovereignty, ethos and foreign policy of the country.

He also accused the government of ‘treating a very serious issue lightly'.

“There is no statement either from the Prime Minister or anybody else sufficiently senior and high in government hierarchy. We demand that the Prime Minister must make a proper statement on the issue and unequivocally and firmly write to the Chinese President a strongly worded letter, which should be made public," Singhvi said on Monday.

Despite the reported assurance by Chinese President Xi Jinping, who concluded his three-day visit to India last week, the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in Eastern Ladakh showed no sign of ending. On Sunday, Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) pitched seven tents off in Chumar area of Ladakh.

Chumar, the last village in Ladakh area bordering Himachal Pradesh, has been a bone of contention with China claiming it to be its own territory and has been frequenting the area with helicopter incursions almost every year.

Chumar had become a flash point during the fortnight long standoff last year in Daulat Beg Oldie as the Chinese side had objected to overhead bunkers erected by the Indian side.
