Bangalore: AICC General Secretary B K Hariprasad today defended Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remarks on the marital status of Narendra Modi, saying he did not question Gujarat CM's relationship, but the legality of concealing it from the people in last three state elections.

“What Rahulji has said is not the question of relationship of a lady with Modi, but a legal question where in last three elections Narendra Modi has not mentioned about his wife,” he told reporters in an interaction organised by the Bangalore Reporters Guild here.

By not mentioning the name of his wife in the last three elections, Modi has ‘misled' the people of the country and Election Commission, Hariprasad said.

Reacting to BJP leader Arun Jaitley's remarks in his blog about alleged “illicit relationship” of some Congressmen, he said people also knew the illicit relationship of BJP leaders in Karnataka.

“It is known who had illicit relationship in Karnataka and in that (BJP) circle too” he said.

On Modi deciding to contest elections from Varanasi, Hariprasad said, “He (Modi) has gone to Varanasi to wash off his sins committed in Gujarat. Even if he goes and dips (himself) in Ganga, the Ganges will also get polluted.”

On Sanjaya Baru's book “The Accidental Prime Minister—The Making and Unmaking Of Manmohan Singh” which says Prime Minister Manmohan Singh surrendered to Sonia Gandhi and allies, he said it was unbecoming of the PMO's former media adviser to say so.

“There is nothing wrong in conveying to Prime Minister the decision taken by the Congress President. The way in which the press advisor said is not in good taste,” he said.

Baru, PM's Media Advisor between 2004 and 2008, has quoted Singh as having told him that there cannot be two centres of power.
