Mumbai: The Congress party today approached the Election Commission as some local Marathi channels re-telecast Narendra Modi's speech at Madison Square Garden in New York last night.

Maharashtra Congress has sent letters to the Election Commission stating that it was violation of model code of conduct.

The Congress has said that Modi spoke as the Prime Minister and the BJP cannot use the speech as a campaign tool. They also allege that the telecast was not branded as a sponsored one by some channels.

NCP Chief Sharad Pawar attacked Modi for using the speech as a tool for campaigns. The Congress also termed it as a fit case of paid news.
