Chennai: AIADMK general secretary J.Jayalalithaa Sunday charged the Congress-led government at the centre with betraying the interests of fishermen.
Addressing an election rally here, the Tamil Nadu chief minister said: "The fishing community knows it is only the AIADMK who is their friend. Fishermen would not accept that AIADMK is not concerned about them."
Jayalalithaa was responding to Congress president Sonia Gandhi's statement at a rally in Kanyakumari that the AIADMK was not concerned about fishermen's welfare.
Gandhi had said it was the Congress government that facilitated talks between the fishing communities of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
