New Delhi, Jul 4: Madhusudan Mistry, the Congress general secretary and UP in-charge, says that union steel minister Beni Prasad Verma has regretted his remarks against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav after he was summoned by the party to clarify his remarks.

According to Mistry, Beni Prasad has assured the party that it would not be repeated again.

Beni Prasad Verma had ridiculed Mulayam Singh's aspirations for PM's post and had said that Mulayam was not even fit to sweep the Prime Minister's residence.

"This is not Congress culture to talk so low," Mistry said while distancing the party from Beni's comments.

According to Mistry, the party has asked Beni to desist from making such comments.

This move of the central leadership of the Congress party assumes significance in view of the fact that the UPA govt needs support of all of its allies to pass the food security bill in the run-up to the 2014 elections.

Beni Prasad Verma, friend-turned-foe of Mulayam, has been leveling allegations against SP supremo on a regular interval.
