Jammu: Congress today accused Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed of making a 'U Turn' on the issue of the creation of a "Composite Township" for displaced Kashmiri Pandit community in the Kashmir valley.
"Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has developed cold feet on creation of composite cluster for resettlement of Kashmiri pundits. It has not even been three or four days since you returned from Delhi, after meeting Home Minister Rajnath Singh, you offered 62 acres of land for creation of cluster for Kashmir pundits" Congress Legislature Party Leader, Rigzin Jora told reporters here today.
Jora said it was surprising that Chief Minister has taken a "U turn" on the issue, "It was surprising that Mufti Sayeed took a complete U turn on the issue in the assembly citing misreporting by the media," he said.
Jora questioned the delay in issuing the rejoined if the issue was just a misreporting by the media.
"Why Mufti did not issue any immediate rejoinder if that was the case; why did you wait so long? The fact of the matter is that today he find yourself between a rock and a hard place" he said.
Jora accused the J-K chief minister of pulling out under the pressure of separatist forces in the Kashmir valley.
"When you realized that the various factions of the Hurriyat Conference has given a call for Kashmir shut-down you chickened out," he said.
Jora said during the reply to the motion of thanks on the governor address, where to a pointed question by former chief Minister Omar Abdullah - whether he plans to bring up something like Jagti in Kashmir, Mufti is on record to have said "yes".
"Public memory is not as short as Mufti Sayeed makes it out to be," he said.
Jora also accused the PDP of fueling the amaranth land row agitation of 2008, "it was Qazi Afzal the Forest Minister from PDP who proposed to the cabinet the transfer of land to Amarnath Shrine Board, when it backfired in the valley, PDP was the first to be on the street demanding revocation," he said.
Jora accused Mufti of joining hands with the party against whom he had contested the elections promising votes just to keep BJP at bay.
He said that the issue of the resettlement of Kashmiri pundits in the Kashmir valley was "unnecessarily" being politicized
"For heaven's sake stop politicizing their tragedy. If at all the Modi government has any policy for their resettlement and reintegration, take the pandits on board and ascertain from them how to go about it. Rather than prescribing solution for which there are few takers," Jora said.
