New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to avoid elections in Delhi, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity graph was ‘declining' and the saffron party was afraid that ‘Modi magic' may not work anymore.

"The magic of Narendra Modi has evaporated. There is now fear among the BJP and this is why they want to avoid elections in Delhi. BJP wants to form government in an unconstitutional and non-democratic way. We strongly oppose this," Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Arvinder Singh said at a gathering in New Delhi.

Singh said that Congress is ready to face elections and will conduct public awareness programs across the city to expose the ‘ulterior' motives of the BJP.

Referring to Modi's interview to the US media, Congress leader Haroon Yusuf said that for the first time Modi has admitted that Indian Muslims are patriot whereas his colleagues were ‘spewing venom against Muslim community'.

Other Congress leaders too criticized the ‘anti-poor policy' of the BJP government. They alleged that even after repeated assurances, the BJP has failed to put in place a satisfactory policy for e-rickshaw drivers who have been rendered jobless.
