New Delhi, Sep 6: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal today rejected the allegations that the UPA Government was the beneficiery of the 2008 ‘cash-for-vote' scam saying it did not need the votes of three BJP MPs who claimed to have been bribed.

“Congress Government did not need any votes. You can check records and see how many votes we won,” he said reacting to queries on the alleged attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 confidence vote in Parliament.

The special court hearing the case today rejected bail to Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh and former BJP MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora for their alleged role in the scam.

Bansal made it clear that there was no need for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make a statement on the issue.

He also criticised the BJP for not allowing the Parliament to function saying that Parliament is the place where such issues should be discussed. PTI
