Panaji, Jul 11:BJP on Tuesday said Union Minister Salman Khurshid's reported statements reflected “uneasiness” within the Congress and this would ultimately work in favour of NDA-backed presidential candidate P A Sangma.
Khurshid's reported comments that Rahul Gandhi is only playing a ‘cameo role' and ‘Congress is directionless', created a row, which prompted the minister today to clarify what he meant was that the young and new leadership should prepare to lead from the front.
“This (presidential) election has become a turning point in the Indian politics.
The statement by Union Minister Salman Khurshid reflects uneasiness in the Congress party,” BJP national spokesman Prakash Javadekar, who is touring with Sangma in the run-up to the Presidential elections, told a press conference here.
“Though the presidential poll seems to be tilted on paper, in the churning scenario, you never know what is going to happen.
The ball has set rolling,” the BJP leader said. Javadekar who called the “uneasiness” in Congress and reactions thereafter a “very serious development”, further said, “This has revealed that the ruling party has a policy paralysis.”
The MPs and MLAs from BJP and its alliance partner in Goa, along with four independents, pledged their support to Sangma.
Sangma said that since the polls would be held through secret ballot and there is no party whip, everybody will have to vote as per conscience.
“Everybody is saying and I also feel that the history of 1969 would be repeated,” he said.
Sangma said that there are several indications, in which, the MLAs and MPs are rebelling against their own party leadership to support him in the poll.
“I was in Ahmadabad.
There, people are telling their MPs and MLAs that if they don't vote for Sangma, then they should beware, saying they (MPs and MLAs) will have to face them again,” he said.
