For the first time, Congress on Friday demanded resignation of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in the wake of the Narayanpur attack on CRPF personnel by Maoists.
"Raman Singh should resign owning moral responsibility for the killing of CRPF personnel and innocent people by Naxals," AICC General Secretary in charge of the state V Narayanasamy told reporters in New Delhi.
He said Naxalism had spread in 11 districts during the BJP regime in the state and added that there was no threat from the ultras when Congress, under Ajit Jogi, was in power. The party general secretary also criticised DGP Vishwa Ranjan for the situation. The Congress leader said the job of the Central government was to give logistic support and utilisation of the central forces was the job of the state government.
Narayanasamy also rubbished the BJP's charge that Congress and the Central government were speaking in different voice on the Naxal issue.
"The Congress party and government have the same line. They want Naxalism to be curbed in the entire country. BJP is blaming Congress and the Centre in order to whitewash their sins," he added.
The Maoists killed 27 CRPF personnel in Narayanpur district of the state on June 29. The attack came three months after the April six Dantewada massacre by the Maoists, which had left 76 security personnel dead. Yesterday party spokesman Manish Tewari had emphasised on the need of the state government and the Centre being on the same page to combat the menace.
"The latest Naxal attack once again underscores the fact that given the very serious nature of the challenge, the Centre and all state governments need to be on the same page to isolate and neutralise this violent barbaric organisation," Tewari had said. PTI
