New Delhi: People who lost their passports during floods in Chennai will be able to get fresh passports free of charge, Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj said today.

“If your passport is lost or damaged in floods, pl go to any of three PSKs in Chennai. They will issue u fresh passport free of charge. Pl RT,” Swaraj said on her Twitter account.

Chennai suffered its worst ever flood when torrential rain ravaged the coastal city. Armed Forces, NDRF and other agencies carried out continuous rescue operations and evacuated thousands of people from their flooded homes.

Life was slowly limping back to normalcy on Monday, with shops opening up and a massive clean up initiated in areas where the water levels have receded.

The living conditions here were still not okay. Resumption of auto-rickshaw services and public transport made people's life easier after being completely crippled for the past five days.

All domestic and international flights from Chennai, both day and night, will resume today after partial day-time services operated on Sunday.

The Southern Railway said train services have resumed from Chennai.
