Patna, Aug 16: The detention of Anna Hazare was a ‘rehearsal for emergency' and a ‘murder of democracy' since the Centre was afraid of the mass support generated by Gandhian's movement against corruption, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said today.
“It is a fundamental right to oppose in a peaceful and non-violent manner... It reminds me of the days of the Emergency. Now a similar situation exists. It is a rehearsal for emergency which people will never tolerate. It is a murder of democracy,” Kumar told reporters here.
He said that the detention of the Gandhian had been been made in “sheer desperation”.
“The Central government is afraid of the mass support the movement has. It seems that the people sitting in Delhi don't have realisation of democratic values.” PTI
