New Delhi: Congress has suggested that CBI Director Ranjit Sinha quit following the Supreme Court directive to take him off from the the 2G spectrum case.
Party spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil yesterday said, "Questions have been raised on him (Sinha) earlier also."
Twelve days before his retirement, Sinha had yesterday suffered a major blow when the Supreme Court removed him from the 2G scam case, saying the allegations against him of protecting some accused appears to be "prima facie credible".
To a question as to whether Congress thinks that Sinha should step down, Gohil said "the matter is sub judice. The court is looking at it. It has also removed him from the 2G. Many questions have been raised on him (Sinha) earlier also."
Pressed further whether Sinha should quit on moral ground, the Congress leader replied in the affirmative but said morality is something that is individual-specific.
"Morality is something which depends on individual. It is right. He should quit on moral ground," he said.
He at the same time used the question to take a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he should have also quit after all that happened in Gujarat.
The AICC briefing today saw a number of questions on the absence of many Congress leaders during the international conference organized by the party on Jawaharlal Nehru and dismissed contentions that senior leaders were not invited.
"Invitations were sent as per the categorisation made for the event. A number of leaders have attended," he said.
Pressed further, he said "one gets invitations for marriage functions but you fail to reach everywhere", remarks which led to a barrage of questions at the briefing.
