New Delhi, Sep 24: Hike in Dearness allowance of central government employees tops the agenda of the cabinet meeting slated to take place this evening. The move will result in direct benefit for over 52 lakh government employees.
Other items on agenda include computerization of PDS and bailout package for state power distribution companies.
If approved, the hike in dearness allowance of central govt employees will be effective from July 1, 2012. It will put an additional burden of around Rs 7,400 crore annually.
The government had last increased DA in March this year from 58 per cent to 65 per cent, which was effective from January 1, 2012. It will now be increased to 72 per cent.
